Paramo's Velez Adventure Light smock is a versatile garment that uses waterproof and highly breathable Nikwax Analogy fabric.
Although it has more insulation than most other lightweight jackets we have tested, its breathability, combined with huge two-way twin zip front vents, mean you can use it in warmer weather without getting too hot. It will also work in winter too, making it effectively a year-round waterproof.
All the features are really well put together - the fully-adjustable, wired peak hood offers superb protection and great peripheral vision, there's a snug high collar below which sits above a deep chest zip for venting, and below that again is a large zipped map pocket.
Other features we really like include double-layer lining either side of the spine and on the shoulders for use with a pack, articulated shoulders and sleeves for maximum freedom of movement, and the neat design of the zipped internal pockets which double for storage or handwarming.
All closures other than the cuffs are one-handed, and a contoured fit means that it's a really comfortable piece of kit.
If you're specifically after a lightweight technical waterproof jacket you'll probably not go for the Velez smock, but if you're looking for something that will keep you dry and warm on the hills year round, and that doesn't way too much, you should take a look at the 584g Velez.
