Aimed squarely at cycle tourers the Tortec Epic stainless steel rear rack has many of the features you might expect from this type of rack.

Its stainless steel construction seems strong and durable and the frame remains solid and rigid when you load it up towards its 40kg capacity, the 10 year manufacturer's warranty backs this up. Being steel, the Epic can be welded anywhere in the world should it fail making it a better choice for overseas tours than its alloy sibling.

The Epic has two levels of pannier attachment bars meaning that luggage can be set fairly far back improving heel clearance, the panniers can also be set low giving a nice low centre of gravity.

262 & 700c wheeled bikes are catered for, those with disc brake equipped bikes will need to invest in an additional disc mount kit.

In terms of pricing the Tortec sits between Tubus options at the higher end and Blackburn at the lower end of the scale, the quality certainly seems good enough to compete with Tubus and anecdotal reports suggest that they'll last the distance on an Epic tour.
