Included in the Outdoors Magic Greener Gear Guide 2024/ 25, the Aspira 360° is the newest version of this smock that focuses on the overall carbon footprint of the garment, namely with some admirable efforts towards 360° circularity.
Páramo already champion reuse and repair of their garments, but now they are taking sustainability one step further. By using chemical recycling methods on their products a the end of their lifespans, and other waste products from the outdoor industry, they can preserve the performance and integrity of virgin polyester, allowing it to be reused in new products.
Designed specifically for extreme weather conditions, the Aspira 360° features a thick, two-layer fabric that blocks out wind chill and offers ample room for insulating layers underneath. There’s also padded insulation on the backside and around shoulders which traps your body heat while also helping to minimise the strain of a heavily loaded backpack.
Páramo – in case you didn’t know – are a British outdoor clothing brand founded by the same man who created Nikwax. In fact, most Páramo clothing – including the Aspira 360° – features a unique Nikwax Analogy fabric which uses a membrane-free construction, mimicking animal fur to provide effective rain protection while managing internal moisture. This also includes a highly effective PFC-free Nikwax hydrophobic treatment.
Páramo will also take back any Analogy product when it’s at the end of its useable life, give the owner a £50 voucher in return, and refurbish or recycle the item. Pretty impressive stuff.
The Aspira 360° is already partially made from recycled fabrics such as old Páramo jackets and leftover fabrics from other textile goods. In the long run, they’re looking to apply this thinking to all of their garments, and only rely on waste from the outdoor industry, closing their own loop to reach true company circularity.
Including a helmet-compatible mouldable hood, several ventilation points for temperature control, articulated shoulders and sleeves, five sizeable pockets including a large front pocket, and an industry-leading sustainability ethos – what’s not to like?
Other details include Velcro cuffs, a reflective logo, a 2″ drip skirt and scooped tail for extra weather protection, and zipper tabs that are easy to use with cold hands or when you’re wearing gloves.
