Self-described ‘mountain experts’ Cimalp have been producing top-of-the-line (or should we say ‘top-of-the-ridge’…) mountaineering gear since way back in 1964. Founded by climber and mountaineer Paul Sailler, ‘connecting you to the mountains’ is their raison d’être.
One of their first notable innovations as a brand was to add Lycra to mountaineering trousers, creating that stretch we now use in almost all of our hiking trousers today. Since then, they’ve gone on to produce an incredible array of technologies including Ultrashell, a patented triple-layer membrane, Cimaloft, a synthethic down made from corn fibres and recycled polyester, Aerodry, a highly effective ventiliation system, 3D-Flex, and many, many more.
WIN a Down Jacket from Cimalp worth £384
We’ve been lucky enough to team up with Cimalp and Outdoors Magic to give you the chance to win a women’s or men’s Cimalp down jacket. More specifically, we’re talking about the men’s Meru jacket, and the women’s Lory jacket.
These ultra-light down jackets have been designed to provide mountaineers and winter hikers with a way to move swiftly, but lightly, through the alpine environment. They’re incredibly warm too and could work just as well on their own, accompanied with a mid-layer, or simply under a protective shell jacket for those wet and windy days out in the snow.
What delivers this optimum warmth and packability is Cimalp’s patented CimaCuin technology. Using responsibly sourced down (95% duck down, 5% duck feathers), Cimalp have treated the feathers with a water-repellent coating, and have optimised their density to create an impressive loft of 800 cuin. (The higher the Cuin rating, the better the warmth-to-weight ratio.) This water-repellent coating also helps the jacket to keep its volume even when damp.
The main outer fabric is additionally made from a sturdy 100% recycled polyamide. Cimalp are pretty big on sustainability actually, and are committed to producing garments that are both built-to-last, and are manufactured with a responsible use of resources, including as many recycled and organic materials as possible. Check out their company-wide sustainability commitments for more detailed breakdown of what they’re up to.
Other impressive features of the Cimalp Meru and Lory down jackets include high-set chest pockets designed for compatibility with harnesses or backpacks, waterproof VISLON® YKK double-slider zippers, insulated, adjustable and helmet-compatible hoods, ergonomic pre-shaped designs, and a PFC-free durable water repellant Ecoelite proofing treatment.
