Rohan’s Atlas jacket is heavy and bulky compared to other ‘lightweight’ jackets (780g/3000ml pack size), but to be honest it’s not out to appeal to the fast and light crowd; this is the kind of jacket that’s more suited to easy ambles in the country, and as such you could use it year-round since it has a generous cut and you can easily layer up underneath it.
Because weight hasn’t been a major factor in the design of the Atlas you get plenty of features. The jacket’s Barricade fabric has a two-layer construction with a soft, polyester face fabric and a wicking mesh liner, and it’s waterproof and breathable.
There’s a fully adjustable roll-away hood, below which is a microfiber chin guard and a two-way, full-length zip with double storm flap and ‘popper’ fasteners.
The jacket can be packed inside the large, zipped chest pocket, which is map-compatible, and there are two zipped hand pockets with storm flaps, and a cavernous internal mesh pocket big enough to hold a small dog.
Cuffs, hem and waist are adjustable – the latter is a good thing since the Atlas otherwise has a quite baggy fit. Although the Atlas is too feature heavy to pass as a true lightweight waterproof, if you’re looking for something for casual walking – or even to wear over the top of your work suit in a downpour – it does the trick.
