The Jotun Mountain is an Alpine inspired technical button down shirt by Helly Hansen featuring a quick dry, full-stretch fabric which helps to keep you cool, dry and comfortable in all conditions.
The shirt boasts a UPF 20+ protective coating which is designed to prevent UVA and UVB radiation getting through the fabric and damaging your skin. Most technical mountain shirts now provide anything up to UPF 50 protection with most settling on around UPF 30. We didn’t get sunburnt on the bare skin under our shirt so can only assume that the UPF 20+ protection was sufficient for our climate!
We found the fit to be pretty loose and baggy which, coupled with the full-stretch fabric feels great and works well in terms of ease of movement on the mountain. Although the performance of the shirt is good I would personally avoid wearing the Jotun Mountain to the bar at the end of a long day on the trails as my svelte figure suits a more fitted look.
Our shirt came in ‘olive’ colour which looks much more bright and vibrant than you would imagine from the name. There are other, less exuberant colours available – Tech Navy and Evening Blue.
As a shirt for the trails the Jotun Mountain performs well and obviously has the Helly Hansen name and heritage behind it. It is, however worth bearing in mind that there are other, more technical outdoor shirts available at a slightly lower price point.
