At first glance, you see the traditional style and clear craftsmanship throughout the boot. From the high-tech materials down to the intricate detailing in the lacing eyelets; there’s some real attention to detail here.
In terms of design, there’s a thick 2.8mm Nubuck leather upper, a high platform full of multi-density foam, and a Sympatex waterproof lining. OM rates Sympatex’s membranes highly because not only do they perform well in terms of waterproofness and breathability but they’re also good from a sustainability point of view. Sympatex is made from 100% recyclable materials and is free from harmful perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), reducing environmental pollution.
There’s also that tough Vibram Winkler Evo sole that uses Vibram’s classic Megagrip rubber compound combined with big lugs and a heel brake, forming a tractor-wheel like tread. This makes the Brandecosse Volpe a very strong performer on muddy or loose ground, with the heel brake adding reliability on steep descents. Perfect for the likes of rocky scrambling and sludgy hillwalking here in the UK.
In keeping with Brandecosse’s sustainable ethos, this sole is fully replaceable too. A local cobbler should be able to do this, or you can go to one of UK Vibram’s specialists.
Featuring a gusseted tongue and a secure lacing hook, each pair of Volpe boots is supplied with two sets of laces: one in a classic brown and another in a dark red and black speckled pattern.
