The crazy, nonstop ‘Munga’ mountain bike race, which goes from Bloemfontein to Cape Winelands in South Africa, will now be held in 2015, due to a major investor pulling out.

The proposed race, for teams of two, will be predominantly off road and have an astounding prize purse of $1,000,000, shared amongst the top three teams. The winners are set for a staggering $750,000.

The arduous proposed 1,000km route will be marked, so riders just need to keep the pedals turning and don’t have worry about navigation. It’s a single stage race, with five stations along the race route, where racers can eat and even sleep if they wish.

Race organiser Alex Harris announced on the 14th Oct that, “The Munga offers more than just a race, it’s a test against the toughest of external elements – and today we face one of the race’s toughest challenges, having to postpone the event to 2015, as one of our key investors has withdrawn,”

Teams form Salsa and BETCH.nl had entered, and Olympic medallist Bart Brentjens was expected to race, so it looked viable to run this year, but plans are now on hold until next year- giving you time to start your training!
