The Carian Trail in Turkey is a brand new 500-mile long-distance trail which was inaugurated in 2013, with final way-marking only just completed.

It passes through areas of historical interest and extraordinary natural beauty with panoramic sea vistas and a vast number of classical sites.

Trekking along the Carian Trail is best in the cooler months of May, June, September and October and encompasses moderate walking along ancient caravan routes, goat trails, Roman roads and through traditional villages

You can sample the Bozburun Peninsula section in the company of the path founders Dean and Ayse Livesley and Altay Özcan with Exclusive Escapes from May this year.

They will lead three-day treks of around six-hours each, returning each night to a boutique hotel or villa where the party is based throughout the stay.

The first day starts from Kumlubük – literally on the doorstep of the Dionysos Estate – while the final day finishes at an idyllic bay in Serçe Limani, west of unspoilt Sogüt.  Lunches are taken en-route either in a local 'lokanta', or village house, or as sumptuous picnics with a superb view.
