Coningham-Rolls Swimming Holidays claim to be the first company offering swimming trips within the Arctic Circle. The trips take place around Norway’s Lofoten Islands.
But the sea near the coast isn’t as cold as you might think, as it benefits from the warmer waters of the Gulf Stream. Water temperatures vary between 14-18 degrees Celsius – but you’ll need a wetsuit.
The six-day trip is a challenging programme, with an average of 5km to swim each day. You’re rewarded with excellent scenery, escorted by guides and fully supported during your swims by canoes.
