Go Canoeing in the UKIf you've been inspired by the success of Team GB's canoeists to pick up a paddle, there's an easy way for you to get a taste of the sport.
Whether you want to copy Ed McKeever in canoe sprinting, or liked the look of the white water slalom expertly raced by Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott, the British Canoeing Union are holding events that will get you back in a boat. Guided canoe tours aim to show people some of the inspirational places to paddle in the UK.

The 'Go Canoeing' tours take place at 12 locations around the country, including Salford Quays, Liverpool’s Albert Dock and a tour of the River Thames, taking in views of Windsor Castle and the playing fields of Eton.

'We’ve chosen locations that reflect the stunning scenery deep in the English countryside,' said Howard Blackman, head of participation and development at the British Canoeing Union. 'With the help of our informative Go Canoeing Tour Guides, people can take in the local sights, historical landscapes and stunning wildlife from a new perspective.'

The tours aim to show how fun, sociable and accessible canoeing can be and build on the excitement generated by the games - the British Canoeing Union has seen a four-fold increase in people looking to join canoe clubs since London 2012.

Tours come in two categories; the 'explore' tours are aimed at those who want to enjoy the scenery and countryside from a tranquil perspective while the 'escape' tours offer paddlers a little more adventure and the opportunity to build on their canoeing experience. Family tours for children aged eight years old and upwards are being held during the school holidays.

Tours require a little bit of canoeing experience - around six hours on the water. Complete beginners can instead take part in starter sessions as part of the 'Go Canoeing' initiative.
