The Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 may be a bit of mouthful, but it does come packed with features in what is a comfortable, light, rugged and supportive shoe that's a great option for trail running and summer mountain walking - in fact they even offer a good service when mountain biking with flat pedals since the soles are super grippy.
The XA Pro's were tested in early summer conditions in the northern Lakes, which meant weather conditions from sun to driving snow and rain and underfoot surfaces which varied from dry rock to bog - they coped with all of it admirably after just a little breaking in; even the boggy conditions were a cinch thanks to the Gore-tex lining/quick drying mesh uppers.
I especially like Salomon's Quicklace one-pull lacing system - it's fast and provides a secure hold - plus the support provided to your upper foot along with great cushioning from the EVA shaped footbed and sticky Contagrip soles.
I've used the forerunner to these shoes for the last two summers and will be replacing them with this model since it's even better - if you want one pair of lightweight shoes for all your summer mountain adventures the Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 is hard to beat.
