The new Alphacross GTX is a versatile outdoor shoe with a variety of potential applications. Ideal for entry-level off road adventures, light hikes and long days on your feet sightseeing, the super comfy Alphacross offers a superbly cushioned ride.

In addition to a soft underfoot feel, the Alphacross GTX comes with full Gore-Tex protection ensuring your feet stay warm and dry when you're moving at speed through wet grass and muddy puddles.

Other features of note include the excellent Contragrip sole with deep lugs designed to help you stay upright on steep slippery trails and muddy paths. The spaced lugs offer great traction in soft, boggy terrain which makes the Alphacross GTX an ideal shoe for rainy autumn off road adventures here in the UK.

In terms of fit, the Alphacross GTX sits on the medium-to-wide end of the spectrum which will enhance its intended broad based appeal. As a result, low volume footed runners with narrow heels are likely to find the Alphacross to slip a little at the rear so be sure to try before you buy.

If you're yet to be convinced by Salomon's innovative QuickLace system then the traditional lacing of the Alphacross is likely to appeal. Personally we're big fans of the QuickLace system here at AT HQ but do always appreciate the super precise and personalised fit that regular lacing provides.

We believe the Alphacross GTX is a genuinely decent off road offering with lots of features and bags of potential. With its 10mm drop and slightly clunky styling, it may not be the slickest competitor on the start line but if you're looking for a durable, versatile shoe that does the basics well, it's well worth a look.
