The Lowa San Fransisco is made for travelling and general everyday wear. These trendy shoes make use of relatively new Gore-Tex Surround technology which aims to make them waterproof without the usual clamminess associated with Gore-Tex liners in shoes.
The shoe looks and feels minimal in construction, the instep is barely noticeable and the sole is flat with very little lug depth so this isn't one we'd recommended for use on rugged terrain but the grip and feel on paved surfaces is fine.
A series of triangular holes in the sole give you a window directly into the Gore-Tex Surround lining which keeps your feet perfectly dry from the bottom and sides, although the low-cut means that splashes can easily get over the top. The holes have a nasty habit of collecting pebbles in them but aside from that they make wearing a Gore-Tex liner in a travelling shoe just about bearable. Perforations along the nubuck upper further enhance the airy feel.
The San Francisco's are well made and easy going to wear and aside from being a good option as a travelling shoe they make a perfect companion to a British winter being that they're both stylish and waterproof, two words that don't often go together!
