The relatively light (851g each), C1 crampon-compatible Mallerstang is available in five width fittings (the only bootmaker in Europe to offer this service) ensuring great comfort for pretty much any user, and I found that they fit like a glove, with great forefoot and ankle support whilst aggressively lugged Vibram soles and stiff midsoles provide confidence on any terrain.

I think there’s a great deal to be said for a company which puts so much obvious care into their products, and will happily resole the boots when needed, which means this high quality full-grain leather boot will last many years if properly cared for.

In use the Mallerstang is comparable to the Zamberlan Vioz Plus GTX, and even comes in at the same price. There isn’t space here to provide the full lowdown on Alt-Berg’s impressive attention to detail so we’d simply recommend you check out a pair yourself and discover what real British craftsmanship is all about.
