Coming in at a razor sharp £35 it would be fair to say the Giro Rain Jacket has been pared back to the bare essentials by Lusso, but if you are a fair weather cyclist just looking for a straightforward jacket to fend off the odd light shower or chilly wind, you may have found your man.
Although called a rain jacket the Giro is actually only suitable for light showers - the thin fabric is only 'water resistant' and the seams are not taped. On any of our outings it did shrug off showers, but any more sustained downpours fairly quickly found their way in at any number of entry points. None of that is a problem, of course, as long as you know the jacket's limitations and don't expect more of it.
What you do get for your £35 is a well fitting, properly cut cycling jacket that works well on the bike at keeping light showers and wind at bay, and packs easily into a pocket. Features are at a premium as expected for the price, but you do get a smattering of reflective print and one zipped pocket at the rear.
The lycra entry points - cuffs and hem - worked perfectly well for us but of course lacked any adjustment, and the collar was pretty austere with no lining or adjustment. It was cut nice and close however so never generated any complaints as it did seal out the conditions when fully closed up.
For the money you are getting a functional jacket good for showers and wind protection. Just don't take it's 'rain' label too seriously and you won't be disappointed. Well worth the money.
