The system is simple, intuitive and quick to set up with only a few steps to complete before you can start filtering water.
As the name of the product suggests the filtration process is carried out by force of gravity rather than by manual pumping, simply hang the full reservoir above the collection vessel, un-clip the shutoff clamp and let gravity do the work.
Water runs through surprisingly quickly, a full 2L of dirty water takes just over a minute to drain into your chosen vessel as perfectly clean, drinkable water.
If you're at all concerned about how effective the system is don't be, it meets all EPA & NSF guidelines for the removal of Bacteria and Protozoa including Giardia, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, Salmonella and Cholera. The .2 micron pore size isn't sufficient to filter viruses so be aware of where you're collecting water from, if you have to collect downstream from farms or general civilization then you'll have to boil your water afterwards as a safety precaution.
The system comes with a universal bottle adapter which connects to a range of popular hard bottles including those from Platy, MSR, Nalgene, Kleen Kanteen, and Camelbak. You can also opt to connect directly to your backpacks reservoir and pipe clean water into it without removing it from your backpack.
The filter cartridge has a life of 1500 liters or 750 full cycles, replacement filters can of course be bought but as long as you take care to backflush the filter after use and clean and store the system correctly it should last even the most avid backcountry explorers a good length of time.
Considering the package size and weight of only 270g the performance of the Gravityworks is excellent, as long as there's a water source nearby this system has the potential to provide clean drinking water for your whole group quickly and easily.
