Everything about this tent screams quality, from the impeccably made stuff sack to the little blue anodised inserts in the male ends of the DAC Featherlite NSL poles. These are thin walled and super light yet strong enough to weather the fiercest of storms. For extra insurance there's space within the pole sleeves and cups to double up in particularly extreme conditions.
Hilleberg uses a range of Kerlon fabrics for their outers, as with other tents in the Black Label range the Nammatj 3 gets a Kerlon 1800 fabric which has a superior tear strength but is also very light.
The Kerlon 1800 outer fabric extends right to the floor to reduce the chances of snowdrifts or water entering the tent and the inner has a high bathtub floor to keep you dry in case the water level outside rises.
Double guy lines, each with their own slider provide extra strength and stability, and both the cord and sliders are of an exceptionally high quality. Self-equalizing guy lines at either end of the tent add even further stability in high winds.
The tent can be pitched as one, or, if you prefer the inner can unhook from the outer to make a floorless single wall tent which reduces your packed weight to around 3.3kg.
The large vestibule space is accessed by a large single door which can be fastened shut using a toggle through the large zip pulls. The vestibule space is easily generous enough to cook, sit and change in as well as being plenty spacious enough for storing gear.
The vents at either end of the tent are well thought out, both can be accessed from inside the tent, and both can be set in open, mesh or shut positions.
The inner width makes for a generous two-person tent, on expeditions where you might be taking very narrow sleeping mats you could just about squeeze three in.
There are a few basic pockets inside the Nammatj 3, one of which can be used to stuff the inner door into, there's also a gear line at the peak of the tent which can be used to hang lights or clothing from.
This tent is proven adventure ready - it can, and has been taken to the ends of the earth and survived by many more brave and adventurous than us. That said there's nothing to stop you from using it for a weekend away in the Great British outdoors where it will perform equally as admirably. When all this is considered the £845 price tag all but pales into insignificance.
