Those innovative bars reducing trail buzz
Looks might be a bit space age for some

You should never judge a book by its cover, or a bike by its looks for that matter, but there is no denying that the Canyon Grail is a striking bike. And this is largely down to the innovative one-piece hover bar and stem, or Hoverbar CP01 to be more precise.

Present throughout the carbon range Grail, from the entry CF SL 7.0 (£1999) right up to our range topping CF SLX 8.0, this is Canyon's attempt at implementing suspension to smooth out gravel lumps and bumps without resorting to heavier and more complicated suspension forks. Another obvious benefit of the system is the upright position offered by the top, 'floating' section of the bar which sits at an impressive 81mm stack height, giving fantastic long-distance comfort. In use the top level of the bar feels extremely compliant, the middle flex area has noticeable give that allows you to sit on the tops to while away the miles without feeling every minor undulation in the ground. When the terrain demands you can drop onto the hooks for a more precise feel. Comfort levels are extended to the carbon seatpost, which sports a leaf spring system to protect your posterior from the ravages of the track below.

As a range topper, components and finishing kit are second to none, with Shimano Ultegra Di2 providing shifting and stopping power.

Verdict: A truly quick and comfortable gravel bike for both long distance touring and ragging your local trails.
