A very clever device that really does eliminate wind noise when filming outdoor adventures on a smartphone
Make sure you remember to switch on Airplane Mode (or equivalent) to avoid unwanted audio feedback.

How many times have you taken the time to set up and record a short clip of your cycling trip on your smartphone, only to find out that you can't hear thing when you play it back later due to wind noise rendering any audio you've recorded to be rumbly, distorted and/or unaudible?

As more and more of us are getting into making video recordings of our cycling adventures, it's key that we have kit that's up to the job and makes all the effort of setting up shots worthwhile.

Enter the RDE VideoMic Me - a neat, lightweight directional microphone designed to deliver high quality audio on videos recorded on smartphones. Whether you're recording your mates or making a selfie-style film, the VideoMic Me can be mounted in whatever direction the camera is facing.

Designed to cancel out irrelevant audio behind the microphone like crowd or traffic noise, the VideoMic Me picks up only the sound you need. Most importantly for outdoor adventures, it comes with a wind sock that fits easily onto the end of the microphone, meaning you can still record even when it's blowing a hoolie on top of a hill!

We put the RDE VideoMic Me to test at this year's Strathpuffer 24 event in January when Scottish winter was in full effect! We made a series of videos over the weekend, ranging from pieces to camera, general race footage and interviews and the Rode VideoMic Me more than delivered. We were really impressed with its ability to pick up clear, crisp and clean audio even when we were in crowded areas with a lot of ambient noise. The headset jack on the back of the mic was really useful as it meant we could check the quality of the audio as we were recording which made the whole shooting process so much more efficient.

In terms of device compatibility, the VideoMic Me will work with any iOS and Android device as long as the headset input on the device is at the opposite end to the camera so that you don't see the microphone when filming. The adjustment on the back of the mic means that it can be mounted on a variety of devices and adjusted to fit meaning that smartphones can be left in cases which is key for anyone using their phones in the outdoors!

At £57.00, the RDE VideoMic Me offers a quality, dependable, and relatively inexpensive solution to any outdoor filmmaking challenges and is well worth popping in your pack so that you can record that once in a lifetime adventure.
