The E-PL7 follows the same aesthetic form as the iconic 1963 PEN-F but is truly modern in its functionality.
This camera is all about connectivity, ease of use and packability - designed to be slipped into a pocket or bag and pulled out at opportune moments to take that fleeting shot or selfie with the large, flip-down LCD screen. The built in wi-fi allows you to quickly and easily transfer images to your mobile, style up with the 14 art filters and 9 effects, and post to your chosen blog or social media channel.
The Olympus Image Share app, available on iOS and Android, adds capability to control the E-PL7 from your phone with a slightly scaled down version of the settings available on the camera itself, this is a great feature which gives you flexibility when you don't have a dedicated 'camera-man'.
The 16.1 Megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII image processor take care of image quality, in general we found the image quality to be good compared to other cameras on the market in this price bracket.
The E-PL7 is available for £319 (body only) or for £399 with a standard 14-42mm lens kit which should be sufficient for most recreational users. The E-PL7 shares its lens system with the OM-D range of cameras so you get some decent lens options should you wish to up your game, we chose to use 25mm and 75mm f1.8 prime lenses and got some great results.
Overall, the PEN E-PL7 is a good value travel camera which looks great, is easy to use, and crucially takes decent pictures. Image transferring and sharing is a breeze so we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to the style conscious, Facebook or blog happy amateur photographer.
