It comes with Black Diamond’s new PowerTap technology, a really useful feature which allows you to adjust the brightness by simply tapping the side of the Spot’s touch sensitive housing with your finger, and there’s a lock mode so that you don’t accidentally turn it on when it’s in your pack.
The total available settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode, making it a versatile, lightweight head torch that works equally well for night time hiking to campsite cooking and reading in your tent.
It’s also relatively water resistant (don’t immerse it though!) and there’s a useful battery life indicator.
I thought the PowerTap feature an especially good innovation and the option of between 4 and 130 lumens of light means that you can maximise battery life (which is 200 hours on 4 lumens and 60 hours on 130 lumens) as well as obtaining excellent vision at everything from a few inches to 75 metres.
